About Purpose Health Care Africa
Purpose Health Care Africa is a not-for-profit organization championing community led interventions for sustainable impact on health and wellbeing of communities and generations.
We are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable communities through innovative, community-based solutions. With a focus on health promotion, we aim to generate sustainable solutions that address public health challenges and empower local populations to live healthier and productive.
Introduction to the Project
In Kampala slums where over 60% of the city population resides, poor waste management practices lead to clogged drainage systems. The situation is worsened by the increasing intensity of heavy rains caused by climate change, resulting in frequent flooding. These floods carry disease-causing germs into homes, businesses, and open spaces, including children play areas, and contaminate local water sources, which households rely on for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
This has significantly increased the population risk to waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever.
To address these challenges, PHCA is implementing a community-based intervention using the Household Cluster Health Education Model, empowering Village Health Teams (VHTs) to educate communities on sustainable waste management and the prevention of waterborne diseases. The development of impactful IEC materials is a critical component of this project
